Bononia estate winery

Bononia Estate Winery & Resort a combination of a winery and a resort, offering guests the opportunity to experience wine-related activities while enjoying the comfort and luxury of a resort setting. The history of Bononia Estate is like a journey through the centuries starting as early as the times of the Roman Empire.

In 1895, was established one of the oldest breweries in Bulgaria, in the village of Koshava, which was later transformed into a winery. The stately building with its preserved underground corridors sits on the bank of the Danube River about 15 km away from Vidin, by the natural beauty of the locality and the gentle waters of the Danube River.

After 1989, this part of the country seemed to sink into oblivion until the present owners Yotov family decided to contribute to the restoration of the winemaking industry in the region. The first 40 hectares of young vines were planted in 2013, today, sprawl over 130 hectares. The owners plan to expand the estate to 150 hectares, using the Dr. Guyot pruning system, and to grow all kinds of varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Traminer, Viognier, Riesling, Muscat Ottonel, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and the Gamza variety traditional for this region. The labels are ISTAR, Ooh La La, Gomotartsi, and Bononia Estate Reserve.
